IVC 2016 – Cremona

English version below! Follow this link.

International Viola Congress 2016 – Cremona (English)

From October 4th – 8th 2016, the DVS once again participated at the International Viola Congress (IVC) – this time in the historic luthier city of Cremona, organized by our Italian sister club, the AIV (Associazione Italiana della Viola). Dorotea Vismara was the congress host and chair(wo)man.

aiv_logo_tabacco_academy_solo-logo2Just like in 2014, the DVS had prepared contributions to this congress, which were accepted to the official congress programme:

  • New works for viola, written by composition students at the Codarts conservatory in Rotterdam, and performed (premiered) by Dutch viola students
  • Lecture “Historical Viola Recordings” by Kolja Meeuwsen
  • A performance of Patrick Ozzard-Low’s “Sonata: In Opposition” by Amsterdam-based violist Elisabeth Smalt

Furthermore, “our” Dana Zemtsov had been selected through an internet poll as the special “young guest of honour” of the congress, and in this capacity she performed the Bruch “Romance” at the opening concert (with orchestra), and also gave a full solo recital (with piano).

The DVS awarded a few selected students a travel stipend to attend this congress, thanks to a generous donation by IVS Vice President Jutta Puchhammer, who visited the Netherlands in October 2015 (invited by the DVS).

During our stay in Cremona, the DVS delegation also brought daily reports – see our #CremonaBlog posts: [day 0], [day 1], [day 2], [day 3], [day 4+5].
