Historical Viola and Violin Society (HVVS)

Dear Violists!

An historic step…!
We (Antoinette Lohmann and Roald van Os) are proud to let you know that the Historical violin&VIOLA Society (HVVS) has been founded! We are going to do great things and hope to meet you soon at one of our activities!

This HVVS starts out as an associate of the already-established Dutch Viola Society (DVS) with the same mission and vision on the historical viola and violin. An HVVS logo, design, website and first activities are still in development. We want to involve as many students as possible so that they can gain work experience, build their network, conduct research and share knowledge. Also keep an eye on the DVS website!

On Saturday, November 25th from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, we will kick off with the first HVVS meeting and founding activity during the Open Day of the Utrecht Conservatory at the Mariaplaats (Main Building, room H201) in Utrecht; a free lecture by Antoinette Lohmann, teacher of historical violin and viola at the conservatories of Utrecht (HKU) and Amsterdam (CvA) about historical performance practice with the viola prominently present. And I hear you thinking: what is that violin suddenly doing in society? We will also tell you 😊

Would you like to be present at this historic event? You can!
Please register for the Open Day at the Utrecht Conservatory via [this link].

If you are unable to come to Utrecht in person, you can also follow the launch event remotely via zoom! Here is the link to the “live stream”, which will start around 1:45PM:
